LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The country's largest retailer is bringing new jobs to Central Arkansas. Arkansas' own, Walmart, is filling those jobs right now and finding plenty of demand for them.
All together, the company is hiring 300 jobs at the future Walmart Super-Center at Bowen and Chenal in West Little Rock. And they will all be filled by new people since the workers at the old Walmart store that was at this location in the past all transferred to another Little Rock location.
"Right here is my training schedule," Britannica Rodgers said.
Britannica Rodgers shows us her upcoming training schedule as a new worker at a future Walmart Super-Center in Little Rock.
"Never knew I was going to get a job like right off the bat," Rodgers said.
"And you did?" THV's Max Seigle asks.
"And I did," Rodgers said.
It was a lucky score that Rodgers won at this hiring center at West Little Rock Tuesday. The company's now recruiting 300 workers for the Super-Center near Chenal and Bowman. It's set to open in late October.
"I talked to the Chamber of Commerce in Little Rock, everybody is excited to bring this Super-Center back in this location, they really missed this Walmart here," Store Manager Tracy Tull said.
Store Manger Tracy Tull says there's a long roster of available jobs. They include cashiers, sales associates, supervisors, maintenance workers. And even specialty folks for the pharmacy, vision center and cake decorators in the bakery.
"My goal for this area is to develop the associates so they can go to the next step and into management and make a career," Rodgers said.
She will be a coach for workers like Rodgers, who will be working in the frozen foods section at the store. She's also been looking for a job for almost a year now, with a lot to juggle.
"From looking for work and moving situations and have to balance school," Rodgers said.
But thanks a stop at the Walmart hiring center Tuesday, life's getting better for Rodgers.
"It feels great because it feels like I'm one step closer to get to where I want to really go," Rodgers said.
The hiring center for these jobs is located in the Redding Building, right across from Arkansas Heart Hospital along Shackleford Road. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can also apply online by clicking here.
