LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Sept. 15, 2012) - It's estimated that 15,000 children will be diagnosed this year with Type 1 diabetes and there is no cure.

Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump.

To help find a cure, the 2012 Central Arkansas JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes will be held today, September 15 at Murray Park pavilion 3-6. The 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) walk will take participants over the Big Dam Bridge and back.

The event will feature interactive games for family members of all ages as well as food and fun for everyone.

The , a 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) walk over the Big Dam Bridge and back, will start at 9 a.m. today, September 15 at Murray Park pavilions 3-6.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. with the walk beginning at 9 a.m.

Proceeds -- raised through contributions made to walkers and general donations -- will be used for diabetes research. Last year approximately $400,000 was raised.
