LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Parents who challenged the state's school choice law want a federal appeals panel to block the Little Rock School District from filing a brief in an appeal of the judge's ruling.

In June, a federal judge struck down a state law that requires race to be considered in deciding whether students living in one school district can attend classes in another district.

In filings made with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday, lawyers for a group of parents from Malvern argued that the Little Rock School District should not be able to weigh in before the appeals panel.

The Malvern parents argue against the long-standing Little Rock desegregation case being a factor in the appeal. The parents sought only to strike the race portion of the law.
