Today's THV, along with the Gannett Foundation, wants to make a difference in Arkansas by providing volunteers to a nonprofit group for a special "Make a Difference Day" on October 27, 2012.
Gannett Corporation started "Make A Difference Day" more than 20 years ago as a national day for helping others. Since then, millions of Americans have rolled up their sleeves and reached out to improve the lives of others in their communities.
The purpose is to engage millions of volunteers nationwide in building stronger, more vibrant, healthier neighborhoods in ways such as: remodeling community centers, rehabilitating parks, repairing low-income homes, creating community art projects, mentoring at-risk youth, planting community gardens, and much more.
Today's THV is partnering with the United Way to help improve three educational facilities with Make a Difference Day 2012. The projects include Baseline Elementary School in Little Rock, College Station Elementary School in Little Rock, and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arkansas. Many volunteers are needed to work on the wish lists for these locations. The work day will last from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on October 27th, but volunteers for any amount of time will be extremely appreciated.
Gannett Foundation donated $5,000 towards materials needed for the projects. However, more is always needed. If you would like to donate time or money to the causes, click here. Everyday around-the-house items may also be needed at the locations. These include shovels, paint brushes, tool kits, etc. If you have access to items you think could help with these projects, please bring them with you to the work site.
