CHOCTAW, Ark. (KTHV) - There is a new development taking shape in Choctaw. The Han Center, a world center for martial arts and Christian community outreach is being developed and built on land donated to Grandmaster Han's Martial Arts by local residents, Mr. Nick Jones and family.
"Restaurants will get supported, gas stations, convenience stores." said Pete Giovannini with the Van Buren Economic Development Corporation.
Giovannini estimates the county will see $500,000 in annual tax revenue.
The Han Center in Choctaw is a $60 million development that includes a 4,000 seat gymnasium, multiple 2,000+ sq ft work out rooms, a 10,000 sq ft fitness center, significant indoor water facilities including a pool, a cafeteria, restaurant, pro shop, and an indoor walking track. Additional facilities will include a chapel with daily services by local clergy, all-suite hotel, dormitory, and walking trails.
In addition, a mini-forge will provide custom made swords and cutlery. With a staff of 140, the center will provide an immersion experience in martial arts and seeks to become the premier destination for serious martial artists from around the world.
Officials expect the first phase of the project to be completed by the summer of 2014.
