JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A Craighead County prosecutor says a high school counselor who left a loaded pistol in a school vehicle will not be charged.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mike Walden says Westside High School counselor Kami Barkley apparently forgot about the weapon and had no intent to possess a firearm on school property.

A report by sheriff's investigator Gary Etter says Barkley told him she forgot she had the weapon and placed it under the seat when she arrived at a school function on a college campus. Barkley said she then forgot to remove the gun when she returned the vehicle.

A school employee found the gun when the vehicle was returned to the school bus shop.

Westside Superintendent Bryan Duffie said Tuesday the matter is under internal investigation and he can't comment.
