SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A San Antonio man who fatally shot his girlfriend's sister and her mother now faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
James Davis Morrison was convicted Friday of capital murder in the 2009 deaths of 23-year-old Krystle Moten and 46-year-old Laura Moten. The trial's punishment phase is to start Monday.
Morrison shot the women -- including his girlfriend who survived -- multiple times after they accused him of slashing their tires.
Morrison's attorneys claimed he shot the women in self-defense in an apartment complex parking lot. His attorneys say the women were violent and had attacked Morrison, now 34.
The girlfriend's unborn baby died, although that detail was withheld from jurors. A separate capital murder charge is pending for the unborn child's death.
