    Komen Race for the Cure in Little Rock Oct. 20th

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Thousands of participants are getting ready for the annual Komen Race for the Cure. The run/walk to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research is taking place in Little Rock and North Little Rock today, Oct. 20th.

    The race starts at 8:00 a.m. at the intersections of 2nd Street and Broadway in downtown Little Rock. The Women's Competitive 5K Run starts at 7:30 a.m.

    Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. Of the net proceeds raised locally from the Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure, 25% goes to national breast cancer research grants and up to 75% stays in Arkansas to help organizations provide breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs.

    The 3.1 mile course will take participants across the Broadway Bridge into North Little Rock, around Dickey-Stephens Park, back into Little Rock via the Main Street Bridge, cross in front of the Capitol, and finish at Capitol Ave and Gains.

    Arch to Spring Streets, through 2nd to 6th streets will be closed to traffic through the completion of the race.
