GRESHAM, Ore. (CNN) -- Investigators say the longer a 21-year-old Gresham, Oregon woman is missing, the more concerned they are. But there is a potential break in the case to report.
Children playing in a field at an apartment complex in a nearby town found Whitney Heichel's smartphone.
Heichel worked at a Starbucks and her co-workers say she is very punctual, but did not show up for her shift Tuesday.
When she was later reported missing, local police said they considered her disappearance suspicious.
Lt. Claudio Grandjean with the Gresham Police Dept. says, "The person did see some text messages, something that indicated or further confirmed it was Whitney's phone."
Her SUV was found parked outside a Walmart. Heichel's husband said she kissed him on her way out the door to work Tuesday morning and he didn't know anything was wrong until co-workers called and said she hadn't shown up.
A spokesman for the family says they are trying to stay positive about the whole situation.
