FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) The Faulkner County Humane Society makes a statement Saturday involving the animals killed in a mobile home fire on Friday.
"We were at the scene last night. Contrary to rumor, the house was just that - a home, not an animal testing facility. The owners simply had more dogs than they could care for," says Drew Spurgers, the Public Relations Representative for the Faulkner County Humane Society.
Spurgers says not all of the dogs were able to escape. HSFC ended up with approximately 37 dogs and 2 cats.
"Upon realizing the gravity of the situation, the owners signed the dogs over to a few rescue organizations."
The Humane society says it's not sure how many animals went to other rescue groups, but the ones in their care are safe. Spurgers says each animal will be tested for illness and will be spayed or neutered.
Spurgers clears up any rumors and says "no dogs will be sent to kill shelters and all are safe.
