CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - State Sen. Gilbert Baker will be hired by the University of Central Arkansas to a $132,000 a year job when his term ends in January.
UCA President Tom Courtway said Friday that Baker will be executive assistant to the president starting Jan. 15 - the day after his term ends. State law prohibits Baker from taking the job until his term ends.
The 56-year-old Baker is a Republican who was prohibited by term limits from seeking re-election. He spent 20 years at UCA as a music instructor, assistant professor and associate dean before being elected to the Senate in 2000.
His new duties will include special projects; university development and communications; community outreach; and government relations.
Baker said he will not register as nor work as a lobbyist.
