LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) With Arkansas' unemployment numbers slightly increased, unemployed workers will need a way to find a job and not just any job, but one they'll thrive in.
The state's unemployment rate is slightly up a tenth a percent. The unemployment rate for October is 7.2 percent.
If you need help finding a job, the TORQ system matches your job skills to real time jobs. Although it's been out there for a few months, we're finding many Arkansans don't know about it.
Jerrell Hardnett is job hunting and is one of those job seekers who have never heard of TORQ until Tuesday when he stopped at the workforce center. "I've been in banking for a year and three months so, it gave me an idea of jobs in the Little Rock Metropolitan area."
He played with the system and looked at pharmacy positions. The system tells him that he would need chemistry and medical skills. TORQ will show your "gap skills" or areas you need to improve on along with how to fill those gaps.
Kimberly Friedman with the Arkansas Workforce Dept. says TORQ will "point you to a two or four-year university or adult education program where they can update those skills for their job.
Not just job experience, but you can also add your internships and volunteer work.
With Hardnett's job experience as a bank teller, he found 68 positions he scored 100 on.
"That's awesome to see there are various jobs in the banking industry I can go out and get," says Hardnett.
Friedman says this system is also a good tool for military men and women because finding civilian jobs can be difficult. When they input their technical skills, it matches jobs they would be good at.
