JUDSONIA, Ark. (KTHV) - Thanksgiving is a time for family, and the members of one church in Judsonia know that some people in their community would be spending the holidays alone. The River Church invited the community for a big Thanksgiving dinner.
Shianna Cowell coordinated this Thanksgiving feast, and she can definitely rely on her 50 volunteers.
"I asked people to be here at 11 a.m., and people were here by 9 a.m.," said Cowell.
The River Church in Judsonia donated time and food with 200 desserts, 30 turkeys, and 20 hams.
"People started calling and said 'I will bring turkey or I'll bring that,'" said Cowell.
There was enough food for 700 people who were invited just two weeks ago. Those who couldn't drive were picked up.
"We'll let them eat and stay as long as they want and bring them back home," said Cowell.
One of their guests, Leon Martin, loved the food.
"I tell you what, it's out of this world," said Martin. Martin said if he didn't come, he would have had Thanksgiving alone.
"I didn't want anybody to be alone on Thanksgiving," said Cowell.
The Thanksgiving dinner went from noon to 5 p.m., which allowed them to schedule large groups at different times. Cowell said she plans to do this again next year and wants it even bigger.
