BEAUMONT, TX (CNN/KTRK) -- Survivors are talking tonight, after a deadly pileup on an East Texas highway. More than 100 cars were involved in the chain-reaction crash that killed two people.
Devin Cash can't believe he was inside his wreckage just a few hours ago; his Ford Fusion beyond recognition.
The college freshman was riding in his car with his mother, father, sister and roommate when a morning drive to baton rouge changed everything this thanksgiving day. He says, "It was just a couple of seconds, chain reaction."
Like many people involved in the crash, the family thought it might be best to stay in the car until others yelled for them to get out. He says, "As we were trying to get out a car hit us again and then after that car hit us, we jumped out and then the 18 wheeler came and hit all the cars."
His door was jammed so he climbed through the back seat just before his car was reduced to wreckage.
Texas Highway Patrol says there was dense fog in the area at the time of the crash and that could have played a role.
