LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The holiday season is in full swing, and The Salvation Army volunteers are busy working on their annual Angel Tree program.

Now they need your help in filling the truck for the Angel Tree.

The 'Fill the Truck' event will begin today, December 8 at 9:00 a.m. and run until 5:00 p.m. This is open to the general public who would like to donate new toys and coats to children on The Salvation Army Angel Tree.

Upon arrival, shoppers will receive a list of suggested gifts to help fill the truck parked in front of the store. The gifts will then be taken to the Christmas Distribution Center to be handed out to the 3,000 children from Central Arkansas on this year's Angel Tree.

Kathy Barbeire with the Salvation Army says the mission behind 'Fill the Truck' is to make sure every needy child has a toy to unwrap for Christmas.

"We really have a difficult time coming up with all the toys and clothing for all the children that we served each year," she says. "What angels don't get adopted off the tree or the gifts are not returned on time, we still fill the requests for those angels."

Participating Walmart locations are in Benton, the Little Rock store on Cantrell and the Little Rock store on Shackleford.

And if you can't make it out to the event today but still want to help, volunteers are needed at the Christmas Distribution Center. To register for a shift just click here.
