NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A 19-year-old Little Rock man was arrested Thursday morning after a trip through an area drainage system.
According to a North Little Rock Police Dept. incident report, Courtney Deshawn Daniels was found hiding in a drainage system near McCain Mall in North Little Rock. The situation started about 10:30 the night before, when an alarm sounded at the Dillard's department store. An officer and store manager surveyed the area and noticed a number of items missing from the store and heard a fire escape door alarm activate.
Officers outside of the building chased the man who left from the fire escape, but they lost sight of him after he crawled into a storm drain. The officer and manager determined the amount of missing items totaled $8,600.
While searching the area, officers found Daniels in the drainage system behind Best Buy about 1 a.m. When officers approached him, he ran off but they were able to catch him and found a pair of pants, glove, and a pair of ear buds. Daniels was captured wearing shorts, a white tank top, and shoes.
The police report states, "After exiting the drainage system and entered the cool night air, Mr. Daniels asked if he could wear his pants that officers had retrieved inside the tunnel." Given the prior string of circumstances, these items were seized as evidence.
Police confiscated a box cutter that was hidden in Daniels' shoe and then he was taken to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, where he has been charged with fleeing and carrying a weapon.
