HILLSVILLE, VA (CBS/WDBJ) -- Police are trying to figure out if a man from Quebec kidnapped a girl.

A hotel maid found a note; in it the girl says she is missing and the cops are looking for her. Hillsville Police are working with Interpol, the FBI and other Canadian authorities to track down Pierre Morand, a Quebec resident who checked out of this Hillsville Quality Inn Thursday morning.

The note, which you just mentioned was found in Morand's room by housekeeping earlier today. Police believe it could've been a cry for help and are now looking for him.

They say Morand checked in alone and checked out with another person, based on this surveillance video. While we can't show you the note, police say it raised so many red flags they launched a massive multiple-agency investigation.

Sgt. James Alderman with Hillsville police says, "The first thing we did was come back and check the clearing house for missing children. The second thing we did was send out a nationwide teletype. Just in case someone in another agency in another city or town or county across the U.S. had someone missing. It rather be proactive than reactive, I would rather this turn out to be nothing."

Police say the writing on the note could have been a child's. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them immediately.
