UNDATED (CNN) -- Hoping to restore the perception of luxury to the Lincoln line Ford announced Monday a plan to re-brand Lincoln.

Instead of the Lincoln division, it will now be Lincoln Motor Company. The line's full name hasn't been used since the 1950s.

Ford says this doesn't mean a full spin-off, but Lincoln will now have more autonomy with its own product development team and designers.

Changes are coming at the dealership too, where Ford plans for separate Lincoln showrooms and salespeople.

According to Ford, it's part of a long-term strategy to bring Lincoln back to luxury car status.
