RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas lottery organizers are considering ways to improve scratch ticket sales, which have been lagging in recent months.
The Arkansas Lottery Commission met Monday in Russellville, where the panel heard that the lottery received a multi-million dollar boost from the recent $588 million Powerball jackpot.
But it remains uncertain whether sales can be picked up enough for the lottery to reach its projected budget. Legislators are considering ways to alter the formula by which lottery-funded college scholarships are awarded.
Higher Education Department Interim Director Shane Broadway told the commission that he expects changes from the Legislature. That could result in delays in processing scholarship applications next fall as the agency will have to adjust its computer software to implement any changes.
