JONESBORO, Ark. (KTHV) -- Arkansas State University held a press conference to update everyone on the current coaching situation.

Current head coach Gus Malzahn announced Tuesday he will be taking the head coach job at Auburn.

Athletic Director Terry Mohajir provided an update on the A-State Football coaching situation.

Mohajir said the university is still committed to the current construction project on the new facility and end zone and this work will not taper off.

He thanked Malzahn and his family for coming to Jonesboro, but also thanked the community for welcoming them and supporting the university's decision to hire Malzahn and Mohajir asks for the support in the new hire.

Right now, Mohajir says they are focusing on the bowl game and getting details settled for the game and for players. But there is no set timeline to get a coach, even before the GoDaddy.com Bowl Jan. 6, 2013.

Mohajir said his phone has been ringing off the hook with coaches from the NFL and top coaches from the FCS, but they also won't rule out current coaching staff.

Mohajir said that the coach search is still fresh in his mind as the university went through this process just last year and they will try to make the search quick, but they are not in a hurry.

THV's Meredith Mitchell will be in Jonesboro today getting the latest on the coaching situation from the university as well as fans and player feedback.
