LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Dec. 8, 2012) - Many knew Jennings Osborne as the man with the dazzling lights--outside his home and each year at Christmas time at Disneyworld. Now the Arkansas community can honor his memory in a special event this weekend.
The 2nd annual Light Up the Night in Honor of Jennings Osborne 5K run/1-mile walk is taking place today, December 8 at 5 p.m.
Jenning's only daughter, Breezy Osborne-Wingfield, says this is all about keeping her father's legacy alive.
"Really bringing the community together to give back, because that's what he taught us and did for us and promoting healthy, active lifestyle, which he would have benefited from, encomposses all of it."
Participants will run (or walk) from the River Market to the Capitol and back as they enjoy Christmas lights decorating the course. Participants will be encouraged to wear holiday-themed attire that might also incorporate lights.
Last year 900 runners registered for the race. This year the goal is to increase that to 1000 participants.
The race fee is $25. Runners can register on site from 3:30-4:45 p.m. in Rivermarket Pavailion.
"And none of this could be possible without Baptist Health, our presenting sponsor, who also took amazing care of us and Dad and we grew really close to them," Breezy says.
Proceeds will go to benefit Little Rock Animal Village and Our House.
