PEWEE VALLEY, KY (CNN/WAVE) -- Care packages are being put together for military dogs.

The Pewee Valley Veterinary Center in Kentucky is collecting and sending the boxes all the way to Afghanistan. The packages include toys, treats and desperately needed supplies.

Carolyne Tilford says, "Dogs have been used in the military since the Revolutionary War and they are forgotten sometimes. We really want to bless these dogs and change things for them. One of the dogs we're sponsoring it's his ninth round of service."

The vet is also trying to adopt at least 10 military dogs currently in service.
