HAPPY VALLEY, OR (CBS) -- We are learning more about the gunman who opened fire in a mall near Portland, Oregon, during the height of the holiday shopping season.
He was just 22-years-old. Two people were killed a third seriously wounded before the young man took his own life.
Deputies are keeping people away from the mall near Portland where a shooter opened fire.
Authorities released new details about the gunman. Sheriff Craig Roberts says, "His name is Jacob Tyler Roberts. He was born in 1990."
Witnesses say he calmly announced "I am the shooter" before opening fire. Roberts says, "There's no apparent relationship between suspect and his victims."
Frightened holiday shoppers quickly started heading for the exits; one captured the scene on a cell phone.
Authorities say the shooter was firing in the food court until his rifle jammed. That's when he ran into Macy's.
Even the mall Santa had to get down. Brance Wilson says, "When I heard about 18 more shots I decided that it was a semi automatic and I just hit the floor."
When it was all over, two people were killed, one young woman was wounded and the gunman took his own life. Mall GM Dennis Curtis says, "It's difficult to see how anything good comes out of a tragedy like this but it reminds us of how precious we are to one another."
The mall will remain closed while investigators continue to gather evidence.
A hospital spokesperson says the surviving shooting victim is a 15-year-old girl. She is in serious condition but her injuries are not life threatening.
