Notes from police press conference on shootings

Notes from a 5:00 p.m. EST press conference held by Connecticut State Police Dept.

Per Lt. Paul Vance, CSPD:

- 18 children pronounced dead at the scene, 2 pronounced dead at the hospital, 6 adults pronounced dead at the scene, and shooter dead at the scene.

-Each victim's family is assigned an individual officer for personal communication.

- Community has been exceptional, doing everything they possibly can to support the victim's families.

- The FBI crisis management team is assisting families, first responders. This is a really "horrific and difficult scene."

- There is a secondary crime scene, with one body inside. Don't have much info about this secondary crime scene to release.

-Law enforcement thinks there was one shooter, not identifying the shooter at this time.

-Police have seized a weapon, not releasing details on it at this time.

- School taught Kindgergarten-4th grade, all victims were students at the school. Shootings isolated to one section of the building, in two classrooms.

- Officers have been in contact with every parent of the school, they are fully informed of the situation.

-Says the identification process has been the most difficult
