SCHERTZ, TX (CNN/KENS/KAUZ) -- A Texas gun shop owner thinks teachers should carry guns to work. He thinks if teachers are armed, it might help more people survive another school attack.
Josh Felker says, "When evil does confront me, I have a fighting chance, versus being defenseless. I don't advocate anybody having to carry a gun, having that option."
Josh Felker says since Friday's mass shooting in Connecticut, his phone at Lone Star Handgun has been ringing non-stop with people interested in learning more about gun safety. Felker says, "Currently, Texas law allows teachers or any school to allow anybody to carry a firearm onto campus as long, as it's either by written authorization or by school policy."
Under Texas law, firearms are only allowed on campuses with written regulation or written authorization by the school district.
In 2008, the Harrold ISD, northwest of Fort Worth, made news when it became the first school district in the U.S. to implement a guns-on-campus policy. Felker says, "We're big proponents of that legislation if and when it happens, and I think this is a good step forward."
This conversation is nothing new. Felker knows it's a hot topic and says learning how to safely handle and use a weapon is important. Felker says, "That's all it does is it increases your odds for survivability, if and when the wolf comes to slaughter you and your family."
Felker says Lone Star Handgun is offering a free concealed handgun license course to educators through early January. Normally, the class costs $125.
