LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Roads in some areas of the state got a chance to thaw today, which hopefully will make tomorrow's commute a little easier.
The Highway Department said it will be working 24-hours a day probably through Friday to keep the state's highways safe.
One obstacle that slowed their work around West Central Arkansas was debris.
"We had a lot of debris, trees, tree limbs blocking the roadways," said Randy Ort with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
Ort said the highway conditions worsen as you travel northeast of Arkansas towards Cabot and Searcy.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, the highway department road conditions map showed that most main roads in Central Arkansas are laced with patches of ice and several main road in Northeast Arkansas are covered in slush.
