LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The power is back on at the Humane Society of Pulaski County, but they are not of the woods yet. The shelter has been out of power for several days and is asking for donations to get through this difficult time.

The Pulaski County Humane Society is home to about 400 animals, and while they are thankful that the power has been restored, the cleanup is going to be a massive undertaking.

Items still needed include blankets, rugs, old comforters and anything that you could make a warm bed out of.

Debbie Howell with the Humane Society says that during the power outage, things got very desperate.

"During the winter months, we need a lot of bedding anyway but when the power when out we had no way to do any kind of laundry so we were just scrapping."

Howell credits the outpouring of support from the community to helping them get through the power loss.

"Lots of people braved Colonel Glenn Road that had a big lamp post on it and they came down and brought us food, they brought us generators, heaters, lots and lots of blankets and things we really, really needed."

With the power back on, the Humane Society is now looking to the future and a long-term plan should this happen again. You can help by making a monterary donation.

The Humane Society is located at 14600 Colonel Glenn Road just outside of Little Rock. The phone lines are currently out so anyone who can help is asked to contact the Humane Society of Pulaski County at their facebook page. You can also find more information at www.warmhearts.org.
