HOT SPRINGS Ark. (KTHV) - Taking care of the area's seniors has been a major priority in this cold weather.
The Hot Springs office of the Area Agency on Aging dropped by several homes for welfare checks in past few days.
Missy Masterson dropped off some groceries at Wanda Gibson's home -- one of two stops THV 11 tagged along for Friday evening. She said they've been doing these welfare checks since the storm hit Christmas Day and have reached out to around 110 seniors. The groceries included soups, canned vegetables and dried milk.
The two seniors Max Seigle talked to Friday had their power back on but said this extra hand with food and camaraderie really means a lot to them.
One touching moment THV 11 caught on our night out with the agency was when a worker said a prayer with a senior followed up by a hug.
The agency urged folks all over the state to check on the seniors in the neighborhood and also refer them to the Area Agency on Aging if they may need more help than you can provide.
