LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- With the new year here, we want to share some great ideas to help you start the year on the right foot.

According to one consumer author timing is everything. Knowing the right time to do everything from shop to ask your boss for a promoting, can save you time and money.

Here are five examples from Shine by Yahoo.

First up, buy shoes online on Wednesday. You'll often save up to 40 percent.

If you want your tweets to be read, send them between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. That's when the most people are using Twitter.

If you want to start a weight loss program - guess what? Winter is the time to do it. The cold weather causes your body to work harder to burn more calories.

The best time to read to your kids is at 8 o'clock. This is when kids will start to pay more attention to what we find informative and interesting.

Start teaching math to your kids at 14 months. Even if it's just counting to ten, studies show that by the time those kids get to school, they are further ahead than students who were not exposed to numbers by their parents.

If you are scheduling a job interview, the three best times to choose are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m. That's when you are most likely to get the interviewer's full attention.

And for those who are looking to ask for a promotion or a raise, do it in the month of January. Starting in November companies are figuring their budgets for the next year. And in December, they're trying to scrimp and save as much as they can. But when January rolls around so does the start of the fiscal year.

That's when companies are under less pressure to save money and may be able to offer a promotion or a better raise.
