LAKESIDE, Calif. (CNN/KGTV) -- A California woman is in police custody after fire investigators say she deliberately set her house on fire with her mother inside.
The flames erupted on New Year's day near San Diego. Neighbors told police they heard the 74-year-old woman crying for help from across the street.
When they looked outside neighbors say they saw the elderly woman's daughter trying to wrestle her back into the burning home.
Both women are now recovering at a hospital from smoke inhalation.
Investigators plan to charge the daughter with arson and possibly other crimes.
