LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A wreck on I-30 at Scott Hamilton Dr. in Little Rock killed two people. The accident, involving two vehicles, happened New Year's Day around 8:30 p.m.
Officials at Oak Park Baptist Church in Little Rock said one of the victims is David Harris, its long-time senior pastor. A statement from the church said Harris' granddaughter was also killed in the wreck. Other family members are being treated for their injuries. An Arkansas State Police incident report shows the granddaughter is 10-year-old Maci Harris. Both victims were passengers in their vehicle.
Four other people are being treated at area hospitals. Those being treated include an adult and a child who were in the Harris' vehicle and an adult and child from the other vehicle involved.
Bill Sadler with Arkansas State Police said the Criminal Investigative Division is conducting an investigation into the wreck. Sadler said the driver of one of the vehicles was taken into custody Tuesday night on a court order to submit a blood sample for toxicology testing.
He was later taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. No one has been arrested or charged in the incident.
Church Spokesperson Tommy Walker says in lieu of regular Wednesday night services, the congregation gathered to pray for the Harris family and their church.
"He was our pastor here for over thirty five years and he was just a true blessing to our church. As you can only imagine, a pastor being at one church for that long, there were so many people saved by the grace of God through his ministry," says Walker.
According to the church's website, Harris has served as pastor since 1976. No further details of the accident have been released at this time.
