MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Maumelle police arrested a 58-year-old man accused of arranging to have sex with a minor.
Michael Daly of Maumelle is charged with sexual solicitation of a child.
According to a police report, Daly arranged to meet a 14-year-old on Friday for a sexual encounter, but he ended up meeting officers. The report states that Daly may have accidentally called the wrong number, but then continued contacting that person after the initial call.
The following conversation turned into one of a sexual nature, and police were contacted.
"We became involved and we took over the conversation. And all of the texting from one point on was done between the suspect and members of the Maumelle Police Department," said Maumelle Police Chief Sam Williams.
An undercover detective, pretending to be a 14-year-old female, was involved in the conversations with Daly, who was asking the "teen" for sexual favors.
The detective arranged to meet with Daly, who intended to have sexual contact with the 14-year-old.
At that meeting location, Daly was arrested and charged with Sexual Indecency of a Child, which is a Class D felony. Williams said Daly is in custody; he faces a judge on Saturday for a plea and arraignment hearing.
