LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says he doubts the state will raise the minimum wage to $8.25 an hour.

Beebe said Monday he didn't think a proposed increase in the state's minimum wage would be approved during this year's legislative session. He called the proposal to raise the state's minimum wage by $1 above the federal minimum wage "problematic."

Beebe said he didn't know whether arguments in favor of the wage hike or in opposition to it had more validity.

Beebe spoke at a pre-session forum at the state Capitol hosted by the Arkansas Associated Press Managing Editors. The Legislature convenes for this year's session on Jan. 14.
