LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Officers arrested a man after a witness told police he had a knife in his possession at a church.
Police responded to the First Baptist Church on Main Street in North Little Rock and saw Esker Martin III stumbling outside the church. In the incident report, police said the man appeared drunk.
When police approached Martin, he was yelling obscenities at church members who were standing outside. Police said he smelled strongly of alcohol, had watery eyes, and very slurred speech. Martin was then placed in custody, in which he became increasingly verbally abusive.
One of the church's deacons told police that Martin was attending the service when he jumped up and started being belligerent. He said Martin got up and started running down the aisle towards the pastor.
Before he got there, Martin dropped a knife and deacons stopped him from getting any closer. The deacon says Martin said, "Yeah I had the knife, and I have a gun also."
Martin is charged with disorderly conduct and carrying a weapon.
