HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Oaklawn Park opened its 2013 racing season on Friday and a remarkable 19,633 people turned out for the big day.
The track was expecting veteran jockey Calvin Borel to win his 5,000th race this weekend, but Borel suffered a fractured wrist this week and is expected be out for about three weeks. Borel picked up victory No. 4,999 in Louisiana.
To mark Borel's 5,000th victory - whenever it happens - tourism officials printed trading cards featuring the jockey.
Visitors to Oaklawn on Saturday can take part in the long-standing tradition of World Famous Corned Beef Sandwiches for just 50 cents. Sodas are just 10-cents.
Gates open at 11 a.m. First post is 1 p.m.
