UNDATED (CNN) -- The biggest stars in film and TV gathered for a glam party that is the Golden Globes.

It was a night of stars, surprises, and "so what" to Oscar. "Argo" won the night's top award for film, best drama and Oscar snubbed Ben Affleck scored Best Director for the film. Affleck said in his acceptance speech, "Look, I don't care what the award is. When they put your name next to the names she just read off, it's an extraordinary thing in your life..."

"Les Miserables" sung as the Best Motion Picture Comedy/Musical category with Hugh Jackman scooping up Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress went to Anne Hathaway. She said in her acceptance speech, "Thank you for this lovely blunt object that I will forevermore use as a weapon against self-doubt..."

"Zero Dark Thirty" actress Jessica Chastain won for Best Dramatic Actress.

It was a two-fold surprise for Steven Speilberg's historical epic "Lincoln" failing to win out of seven categories nominated except Daniel Day Lewis' globe for Best Actor in a Drama. The second surprise was the film clip introduction by former president Bill Clinton.

Host Amy Poehler said after his appearance, "Wow, what an exciting special guest! That was Hillary Clinton's husband!"

Comedic actresses Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the affair and were also nominees. But in the end Lena Dunham won for Best Actress in a Comedy for "Girls" and thanked Fey and Poehler for getting her through middle school. Tina said in response, "Everyone's getting a little loose now that we're all losers. Congratulations Lena, glad we got you through middle school.""Girls" also won Best Television Comedy.

For the second year in a row, "Homeland" prevailed in the Drama category scoring Best Drama, as well as Best Actor and Actress.
