LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The detectives involved in Friday's officer-involved shooting have been identified. The shooting along Brown St. killed 25-year-old Michael Daniel Jr.

On Monday, Sgt. Cassandra Davis with the Little Rock Police Dept. released the officers' names who were involved in the incident. Those men are Detective Kenneth Blankenship and Detective Todd Hurd from the Department's Special Investigations Division. Davis said they, along with other detectives, responded to a reported residential burglary.

Davis said the two saw a man taking items from a home on W. 16th St. and putting them into a Toyota Camry, driven by another person. The detectives reportedly followed the car and tried arranging for another patrol car to stop it. Before the second patrol car arrived, both suspects got out of the car and ran off.

While chasing the two, detectives said, one of them stopped and appeared to surrender but then charged and fought Blankenship. They said the struggle continued for a few moments and then the suspect knocked Blakenship down and tried taking his handgun. At this time, Hurd approached and, thinking the suspect was taking Blakenship's weapon, used his own gun to fire two rounds at the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene; Blankenship sustained injury to ligaments as a result of the struggle.

Davis said items recovered from the suspects' vehicle was identified as being stolen from the residence at 4521 W. 16th Street. Marcus Davis, the other suspect, was arrested. He has a criminal history that includes the following: Possession of Drugs, Theft By Receiving and Possession of a firearm by certain person.

The deceased suspect, Daniel, also had a criminal history including several counts of breaking and entering, theft of property, possession of an instrument of crime, theft by receiving and theft of property.

Photos of the officers have not been released because they are classified as undercover officers. Officer Blankenship was hired in 1985; Officer Hurd was hired 1992.
