MORRILTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The city of Morrilton now has a new police chief.
Mayor Stewart Nelson told THV 11 News he appointed Sonny Stover to the department's top position at Monday's city council meeting.
Three council members voted for the appointment and five voted against it. Mayor Nelson said it takes six votes to overturn the appointment.
Stover is currently a Chief Deputy for the Conway County Sheriff's Office, and Nelson said he'll start as soon as the sheriff releases him.
Stover worked with the Morrilton Police Department until 2007 when he began working for Conway County. He is 39 years old, has 2 children, and is a life-long Conway County native.
