WASHINGTON (KTHV) -- President Obama outlines his plan for curbing gun violence today. He wants to ban military style assault weapons and high capacity magazines - like those used in the shooting at Sandy Hook elementary.

The package he presents today is also expected to call for criminal and mental health background checks for all gun buyers including those buying at gun shows. The National Rifle Association says it will fight the President's plan and released a new ad pushing for armed guards in schools.

We will have the press conference live starting at 10:55 a.m. on Today's THV and todaysthv.com.
