FORT SMITH, Ark. (KTHV) - Military families are fighting to save the A10 Mission at the 188th Fighter Wing.
The Air Force's chief of staff General Mark Welsh will be there Friday to tour the base, and families of the airmen who serve at the base are getting ready for the general's visit with t-shirts and signs. They also have letters written by kids from local schools and banners for the general's arrival.
"I've got a shirt for both my mother-in-law and my mom," said Ashley Alert. Her husband is a pilot at the 188th Fighter Wing.
The families are planning to flood Phoenix Ave. in front of the base, hoping to make a lasting impression.
Several Arkansas lawmakers will accompany General Welsh for Friday's visit.
