LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV Film Critic Jonathan Nettles review The Last Stand.

There was a time when Arnold Schwarzenegger was the king of action film, he ruled in an era of bloody, one-man versus everyone, never run out of bullets, always hit the target, take 'em head on kind of movie. He took a few years off to rule the state of California but now, as he promised, he's back.

The Last Stand has the kind of thin plot that works really well for an action movie; the head of a Mexican Drug Cartel escapes from federal prison and is making a run for the border. His way across is through a small Arizona town where Arnold Schwarzenegger happens to be the sheriff. Bad guy wants through, Arnold wants to stop him. It is that simple. There are no plot twists or anything that you don't see coming.

It's got everything you expect from an action film of Arnold's caliber: lots of shooting, lots of gore, and lots of Arnold. The one that was missing is the smorgasbord of one-liners that just pushed his movies over the top. There were a few but I guess when you've been behind a desk as the Governor of California, it takes a while to get you swagger back. It's nice to see him getting back into his groove. At times he seemed a little rusty but he's got several other films in development and time will only make him better.

The Last Stand is a fun, action movie which is exactly what it promised and exactly what you expected.
