LONOKE CO., Ark. (KTHV) -- A father of three young kids was found shot to death on the side of the road Saturday night in Lonoke County.
Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley said he and his deputies have been working around the clock to solve Hubert Jackson's murder after a driver came across his body around 10 p.m.
They spent the day retracing his steps and interviewing friends and family but still need the public's help in finding his killer.
"Today, I don't even believe that this happened to him," said Christine Brooks.
She and the rest of 27-year-old Hubert Jackson's family is still trying to comprehend the crime. Brooks raised Jackson, her nephew, and his three sisters since they were babies after her sister passed away. She said she spoke to Jackson just last week when he paid her a visit at her home.
"He came by the house to check on me and I said, 'Okay, you be careful and go on home.' And he said, 'I am, I'm on my way home right now.' I just love him. I can't do no more but love him," said Brooks.
The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office said the body was found off Highway 15 on Bevis Road. It appeared Jackson had been shot then dumped on the side of the road.
"Shock, had no idea about any of this and just shock, just couldn't believe that this had happened," said Jackson's cousin, Shanon Wallace.
She said deputies came to the church her husband pastors in Lonoke on Sunday to give them the news.
"Just knowing that it was a murder I think is probably more shocking because we don't know really what is going on," said Wallace.
It's a crime Brooks said doesn't makes sense--one that took her only nephew's life without explanation.
"I didn't see no evil in his heart. Everything he does, he's just joyful doing it. He just don't deserve that. He really don't," said Brooks.
This is the second homicide in Hubert Jackson's family. His cousin was murdered years ago in the same county.
