LOS ANGELES, CA (CNN) -- A Southern California man was giving away hugs in downtown Los Angeles on Monday.
David Parsons wanted to break a world record for the most hugs in a 24-hour period by one person.
Parsons was raising money for Grants Wishes, a non profit organization that helps children with cancer. He says, "I'm out here because we're always talking about changing the world, and I think it's about doing the simple things everyday with everybody that we meet and enriching people's lives and doing three things, inspiring hope, spreading love and living fulfilled."
Parsons says he was inspired after losing a friend to cancer.
The most hugs given in 24 hours by one person is 8,709. It was set in 2010.
