BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A defense attorney is seeking a mental evaluation for an Arkansas man accused of killing a 6-year-old neighbor who had been the victim in a prior abuse case.
Lawyer Pat Aydelott said Friday he's requested a mental evaluation for 28-year-old Zachary Holly.
Holly has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, rape, kidnapping and residential burglary in the November death of 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman in Bentonville, about 215 miles northwest of Little Rock.
Aydelott said in court documents filed last week that there's reason to believe Holly is not fit to proceed to trial.
He's asking a judge to have Holly committed to the Arkansas State Hospital for 30 days for evaluation and treatment.
Prosecutor Van Stone has said he's seeking the death penalty in the case.
