LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - In a strange turn of events, the apartments originally closed down due to unsafe living conditions, has now caught fire.
According to the Little Rock Fire Department, the Stonecrest Apartments on 9700 W. Baseline Road caught fire Friday around 9:15 p.m.
Captain Randy Hickman told THV 11 that the apartments were supposed to be vacant, but a downstairs unit in building #1 was still occupied, and that is where the fire started. It is unknown if anyone was injured.
The fire is out, and electricity and gas have been shut off to the building. Investigators are on their way to determine the cause of the blaze.
Last week a judge ordered the apartments to shut down citing multiple code violations and describing the place as being in "deplorable shape."

Friday, residents like Shonda Blackwell had to get out. She said many of them were still looking for a place to live.

"I will be outside in the cold tonight while ya'll at home in ya'll cozy bed. What are we suppose to do? Do ya'll got room for us? Do ya'll have room for all of the tenants? It's not the management's fault out here on Stonecrest property. It's the owners," said Blackwell.

Blackwell said the owners did promise to help tenants find a new place to live but never kept their word.
