HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a man was arrested on felony charges after a security guard allegedly caught him stealing copper wire from a vacant hotel in downtown Hot Springs.
Police say a security guard was making a routine check at the Majestic Hotel on Monday afternoon when he reportedly saw three people near a pickup truck with the bed full of insulated copper wiring. The Sentinel-Record reports that the guard called police, and two of the people fled.
A third man was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and theft of scrap metal.
Police say the truck contained about 1,500 pounds of copper wiring, valued at $6,000. Authorities believe the wiring was removed the breaker room at the Majestic Hotel.
