ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KTHV) - The waitress who posted a much-talked-about receipt online has been fired.
The receipt in the middle of the controversy has a hand-written note on it saying 'I give God 10%, why do you get 18,' signed by a pastor. The 18% gratuity was automatically added on to the pastor's bill since she was part of a party of 8 or more, which is the restaurant's policy.

Yahoo! reports the waitress from a St. Louis area Applebee's was fired after the pastor contacted the restaurant and said the story had ruined her reputation.
"[It was] a lapse in my character and judgment," Pastor Alois Bell told the Smoking Gun, saying she didn't expect her signature to be so easily recognized.
Yahoo!'s report states that a spokesman for Applebee's confirmed the waitress involved, Chelsea Welch, "is no longer employed by the franchise."
"I had no intention of starting a witch hunt or hurting anyone. I just wanted to share a picture I found interesting," Welch said. "I come home exhausted, sore, burnt, dirty and blistered on a good day. And after all that, I can be fired for 'embarrassing' someone who directly insults their server on religious grounds."
