CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The name of the Conway police officer who was hit by a vehicle while on duty has been released.
LaTresha Woodruff with the Conway Police Dept. said Officer William Michael McGary was helping direct traffic around a car accident when another vehicle hit him. The incident happened on Dave Ward Drive and Exchange shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday.
McGary was airlifted from the scene to a Little Rock hospital due to the severity of his injuries, Woodruff said. No one else was injured.
Arkansas State Police, the Conway Fire Dept., and Conway police were at the scene and are helping with the investigation. Woodruff said Friday afternoon the suspect in the case is Barry Strickland, who faces four charges related to the wreck. Those charges include 1st Degree Battery, DWI - Drugs, Careless or Unsafe Driving, and Disobeying a Police Officer. Strickland, 31, is being held on $150,000 bond.
