CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The Conway Police Department has announced that Officer William McGary passed away shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.

Public information officer LaTresha Woodruff said employees of the Conway Police Department has spent the past day with McGary's family after he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic.

McGary was airlifted from the scene to a Little Rock hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Woodruff said McGary's family was very proud that he was a member of the Conway Police Department and was appreciative of all the outpouring of support.

Barry Strickland, 31, was arrested and faces four charges in connection with the incident, including DWI and disobeying a police officer.
