FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A mail sorting facility in Fort Smith is being closed by the Postal Service.
Sorting and processing from the station was moved to Fayetteville, as of Saturday.
The Postal Service says the move is part of a plan to consolidate its processing network. That consolidation is part of a larger plan to reduce costs by $20 billion by 2015.
Fort Smith television station KHBS reports that jobs won't be lost because of the closure and that mail handlers and clerks will be moved to other positions.
